Yok's latest work hits Melbourne for a brief run at Don't Come Galllery this month.

When Yok first emerged on the graffiti scene, most of his characters were based on gargoyles. That's right... gargoyles. Today he focuses most of his energy on painting canvases and producing silk screen prints of his designs.

Ikko Banquet sees Yok moving into a more reflective, abstract phase. Two huge inflatable guards loom over the gallery space. Canvases depict a zoomed-in segment of a much larger work, complete as fragments. Bold lines represent the contours of the face taken directly from his distinctive heavy-lidded characters. Their bodies are rendered translucent, their thoughts on display.

Switching to a more representational style while using familiar elements, Yok attempts to portray what these mixed up thoughts are.

Ikko Banquet at Don’t Come Gallery (Royal Arcade, 314 Lt Collins Street). From 9th November - 30th November 2007. With an opening reception on 9th November 6-8pm.
