The first runway show of MMSFW showcased an elegant collection of women's wear for the spring/summer season, featuring designs from Nicola Finetti, Caravana, Anna Thomas, Jayson Brunsdon and Aurelio Costarella.
High waisted skirts and belted dresses dominated Nicola Finetti's collection, and were frequently coupled with this season's take on the bubble hem. Muted browns and creams featured prominently and were accentuated by dusty pinks and mint greens. Simple necklines were adorned with bows and ruffles, with beaded eveningwear finishing off the collection in elegant style.
Producing the most energetic show of the night, Caravana kept the mood playful with bright, bold pieces in floaty fabrics. Models hit the runway to Willy Wonka classic Pure Imagination (of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory fame), strutting out breezy summer tops and skirts in bright shades of yellows, reds and greens.
Striped socks were pulled knee-high under brightly coloured heels, adding a youthful element to a night dominated by more 'serious' fashion. And the label also presented their inaugural collection of equally colourful handbags, designed to compliment this season's clothing range.
Next, Anna Thomas presented her collection of flirty, feminine pieces, with splashes of green complimenting the mostly neutral colour palette. Models sported Grecian-style flats, giving the show a relaxed, summery feel. Emphasized waistlines and bow details were again popular, with the pieces ranging from tailored shorts and jackets to almost bohemian, flowing skirts.
Designer Jayson Brunsdon was out to impress, opening his collection with a series of flowing, silken dresses in bold black and white colour schemes (pictured). Matching patent leather heels added visual impact, contrasting beautifully with the addition of colour in the form of deep red and sky blue dresses. The collection was finished off with a stunning purple-hued dress with a ruffled v-neck and cinched waist, a favourite of the night.
Aurelio Costarella's collection rounded out the show, and it was a case of last definitely not being the least. Tailored shorts were paired with deep v-neck shirts in shades of brown, cream and grey.
Fuller skirts and long dresses crafted from floaty fabrics gave the collection a feminine edge, as did the flower detail adorning many of the pieces. Patterned shorts, skirts, dresses and tops helped also added interest to Costarella's mostly neutral colour scheme.
