Alex Perry was going to boycott this years Mercedes Australian Fashion Week after apparently being snubbed the opening and/or closing time slots in the schedule. Lucky for us, a spot opened after another designer pulled out. As Australia's most glamorous designer, the inclusion of Alex Perry added elegance with some flirtatious sass.
Teen Brit Lily Cole opened the show in a black and white print party dress. Her red hair was sleeked back into a ponytail, her porcelain face accentuated by darkened eyebrows and nude lips. She was taller than you'd imagine in killer purple satin stilettos.
What followed was the ultimate in party and cocktail dresses: floral printed chiffon, satin ruffles, silk tulle and covered buttons. Each one featuring beautiful embellishments of lace, feathers, crystal or beaded details. All dripping with luxury and deliciously sexy.
This party atmosphere was made complete with DJ Sveta mixing the latest dance tracks, including TV ROCK's 'Flaunt It' and Madonna's 'Hung Up'. There were even the naughty lyrics of Nine Inch Nails 'Closer', where the models' pace slowed to Trent Reznor's drawl, 'I wanna fuck you like an animal'. It was pure seduction.
Party mode resumed as classic Perry glamour took centre stage. Magnificent long black evening gowns were accessorised with jewelled diamante belts or billowing tulle opera coats. Dresses perfect for a red carpet event cream cornelli lace, black and red strapless sheaths, yellow silk taffeta, and white ruffles with contrasting black trimmings. Classic empire-line evening gowns were a favourite - Alex Perry glamour at its best.
Lily Cole closed the show in a yellow silk shantung strapless gown. Its fishtail kicked out with every step and her tulle opera coat floated behind her.
The crowd erupted into applause as Perry himself came down the runway - a deserved standing ovation from the celebrity guests who lined the front rows. Many perhaps hopeful that they may get a chance to wear one of these stunning designs at the next big event. What girl wouldn't get excited at the sight of an Alex Perry dress-
