
The second Westgarth Film Festival returns to one of Melbourne’s favourite iconic cinemas, the Palace Westgarth Cinema from 6-9th December 2007 with a program packed full of cinematic gems.
Over three days and four nights you’ll be treated to a candy bar full of treats including special features, celebrity cinema stars and comedians, classic silent features brought to life with musical scores, short films from Australia and the globe, filmmaker workshops, movie trivia and much, much more.
Hot off the press, the 2007 Westgarth Film Festival program includes the following special highlights:
MOVING OUT special CAST REUNION screening with introduction by Michael Pattinson Producer/Director, Jan Sardi Writer and Vince Colosimo. Revisit the memorable coming of age story 25 years after its release, when Vince Colosimo stars in Melbourne Made feature Moving Out. Set in the working class suburb of North Fitzroy, Moving Out tells the tale of Gino (Colosimo), a young Italian teen growing up in this Australian drama classic. Vince Colosimo’s screen test will also be shown and the cast will take questions from the audience. Saturday 8th December @ 7pm, $10
TALKING AT THE MOVIES MEETS BREAKIN’ Thankfully your comic hosts, Asher Treleaven, Andrew McClelland and Scott Edgar (TRIPOD), will provide commentary throughout this screening of Breakin’ to ensure you don’t miss any of the cinematic and cultural references in this 80’s disasterpiece. Breakin’ was one of the first ever breakdance movies and features ICE T in his first feature film appearance and Jean Claude Van Damme in a street dance sequence like no other. KEATON’S SHERLOCK JNR accompanied LIVE by THE BLUE GRASSY KNOLL1924 feature length classic film filled with amazing comic sequences is brought to life by the musically gifted and internationally acclaimed The Blue Grassy Knoll. MISS NORTHCOTE: THEY SHOOT. THEY SCORE Take yourself back to 1920s Northcote, 1926 to be exact, and catch a special glimpse of footage from the Miss Northcote Beauty Contest. Unlike anything you’ve ever seen before, this rare footage will be accompanied by a specially scored live performance by local composer Ben Hendry and his band, Flap.Sunday 9th December @ 10am, $10
THE WORLD OF SHORT FILM Handpicked from over 85 entrants and 750 minutes of footage, see over two hours of the finest shorts from Australia and abroad in the two initiatives new to the festival program, the 10 Minute Wonder Programme and Young Guns Programme. FREE INDUSTRY OPPORTUNITIES Away from the big screen, festival goers and budding filmmakers will be able to take part in two FREE events, Filmmaker Speed Dating - where you may meet your leading lady, grip, gaffer or runner of your dreams and Pitch It Or Ditch It - where each budding auteur can pitch their film scripts to members of Palace Films. AND CLOSING NIGHT FRIVOLITIES Take part in the only dedicated live film trivia around when industry professionals take on the general public as part of Battle of the Big Wigs. You’ll also be treated to the best shorts from the 10 Minute Wonder and Young Guns Programmes and see the fabulous winners announced when the festival draws to a close. Sunday 9th December @ 9pm, $10
