WHEN: 11 – 13 July 2008
WHERE: County Kildare

Oxegen is the sister event of Scotland’s T in the Park, sharing acts throughout a weekend in the mid July summer.

Sponsored by Guinness, the original festival launched in 2000 under the name Witnness, but changed to Oxegen in 2004 when Heineken took over as its host.

It attracts around 80,000 patrons an day, as well as stalls, shops and a fun fair featuring a ferris wheel, a rollercoaster and an ominously named ride called ‘The Big Drop’.

Oxegen promotes itself as “The Greatest Rock n Roll Weekend of the Year” but, as with most of Europe’s mighty shindigs, it’s not strictly rock n roll at all.

In the last few years Oxegen has welcomed an impressive line-up of artists, including James Brown, The Who, Franz Ferdinand, Scissor Sisters, Goo Goo Dolls, Snoop Dogg, Audio Slave, The Gossip, CSS and Daft Punk.

2008 looks set to bypass all of those, with appearances from Prodigy, Stereophonics, Verve, Rage Against the Machine, Chemical Brothers, Kings of Leon, REM, Kaiser Chiefs, The Raconteurs, Ian Brown, Hot Chip, Justice, Aphex Twin, Alabama 3, Panic at the Disco, The Charlatans and The Pogues.

Top Tip: Oxegen has been criticized in the past for providing poor facitlies. Make sure you load up with plenty of water, toilet rolls and the like, so you’re able to concentrate on the music. The other thing to beware of is detailed in the clip below.
