The 17th annual Meredith Music Festival has just appeared on the horizon and already people are eyeing off the prime camping spots near the bar.
Tickets for this event sell like those ever-so-popular hotcakes, with most of Australia hearing about on-sale release dates a short time after they all disappear. This time however, the lovely organizers have implemented a Subscriber Ticket System (it’s all the rage these days, isn’t it), meaning you have a chance to attend the event even if you are a bit disorganized.
And if you’ve never been to Meredith, you really should. Set in the Supernatural Amphitheatre between Geelong and Ballarat, this is the festival that hosts all the people who say they don’t go to festivals.
With just one stage and 12,000 attendees (the event was actually reduced in size two years ago to make it a bit more cosy), Meredith feels like a community rather than a money sponge for the organizers. The ‘One Stage Fits All’ policy means you get to spend your time watching bands, rather than checking out whether the grass is greener in the other tent.
And then there’s the tai chi, BYO drinks, Meredith Eye, free camping, Pink Flamingo Bar and an opportunity to run around starkers with a few hundred close friends in the Meredith Gift. What a way to spend your summer.

MEREDITH SOLD OUT!!!!
Well that didn’t take long did it?
Anyone still hoping to snare a ticket for this year’s Meredith festival should start thinking of something else to do from 14th to 16th December.
Today, the third round ticket opportunity came and went in a flash, selling the last of the allocated passes in record time. This year tickets were sold in a subscriber ballot, through stores and finally online, with the public responding positively to the new system.
If you did miss out, stay tuned for info regarding the Golden Plains Festival which also takes place at the Supernatural Amphitheatre, in March 2008. The inaugural event took place earlier this year and was received with open arms by the 12,000 people who attended.
No artists have been announced at this stage, but you can visit www.goldenplains.com.au if you’re interested in checking out last year’s line-up and details.
