While Paul Dempsey has been furiously writing new material for his solo album, Something For Kate’s highly talented skinsman, Clint Hyndman, is turning his attentions to a slightly different project.

Last month Hyndman opened Yellow Bird, a double fronted café/ bar on trendy Chapel Street in Melbourne, catering for locals who appreciate good food and beers in a laid back rock n roll environment.

As you would expect, the music policy tends to avoid the thumping house beats that are favoured by most of the venues along the strip. You’re more likely to hear the Rolling Stones while you inhale your all-day breakfast and there is talk of the odd live gig happening further down the track.

“I just wanted to open a place that I would want to hang out in, which makes sense as I’m likely to be spending quite a bit of time here” Hyndman says.

“We’ve got internet access, great food and cold beer, so once you’re in, there’s no reason to leave”

The venue turns into a cosy drop in bar after dinner, serving a range of tasty house specials to whet your whistle. The ‘Garyribald’ (beer, coffee and sugar chemically balanced into a shot) sounds strange but comes highly recommended.

Rock on.
