These days Melbourne really has no need for a new club. It seems that every abandoned warehouse, disused milk bar and backstreet toilet block has been converted to include house music for the masses from very late until ridiculously early (even if they advertise it the other way round).
So when one does pop up, it has to be a bit special or it’s not going to cut it with the city’s savvy party people. One that has caught our eye and is shaping up to be well worth a visit is Wah Wah Lounge, a cool new club which occupies the space Two Floors Up and Club Cartel once called home.
Masterminding the project is Andre Cato, best known for his work behind the scenes at Robarta, alongside Luke Bowditch on music and Ravi Chand of Future DJ fame handling the marketing.
The venue has been completely overhauled by Richie Park, whose hiring was based on his designs for Ministry of Sound and the like. He has installed a yet-to-be-seen lighting feature worth $40k as well as sound system designed to take the rind off cheese at 50 paces, so senses look out.
It’s all sounding like somewhere we could find ourselves over the impending summer, with some of the names being dropped for the first month or two of operation being; Luke Bowditch, Pete Tran, Jen Tutty, Katie Drover, Pete McNamara, Frisky, Anthony Larr, James Belias, Andre Cato, Sam Fraser, Agent 86, Luke McD, Shane Coppal, Danni B and Grant Smillie.
The grand opening takes place over two nights on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th October. Visit www.wahwahlounge.com.au for more info.
