While TV and movies become more and more reality based, the world of gaming remains firmly geared towards those with a twisted imagination

Halo 3, the alien-fighting Xbox adventure game, was released this week, breaking all previous records with sales of over $194 million in the first 20 hours. Yes, you did read it right….$194 million.

That’s $54 million more than Halo 2 made on its first day and, wait for it……127 million more dollars than Spiderman 3, the fastest grossing movie of all time!

It’s a huge shot in the arm for Microsoft (whose entertainment division runs at a loss) and a kick in the teeth for SonyCorp, manufacturer of rival consol, Playstation 3.

“It’s a good number” said Andy Miedler, technology analyst at Edward Jones. "This certainly goes a long way toward bringing Microsoft's entertainment division toward that full-year profitability, which we think is important for investors," he added.

Let’s just hope it encourages the major movie houses to abandon the boring reality angle and start looking at plotlines again.
