If you don't have a PSP, maybe it's time to jump on the bandwagon. Yes, it is a sexy piece of kit. It has a huge screen and cool multimedia capabilities, but it also has Lumines. One of the single greatest games to ever come out of Gameland (yes it does exist non-believers).

You know what Tetris is- Right. You know what music is, right- Merge the two, add in cool graphics, simple yet addictive game mechanics, put it on the sexy PSP and funkify it all a little bit and you have yourself the greatest puzzle game that has come to be in a long, long time.

The simplicity is the beautiful part. There are only two colours. You must make a 2 x 2 block of the same colour. That's it. Now here's where it gets funky. The blocks clear when the wave bar moves from left to right in time with the beat. So there is music in the background, a line that flows with the beat, and then when you move, rotate and push the blocks to the extreme sides of the screen, or force them down quickly, different sounds are created. You are making music as you play, without even trying. Every time you play it will be different, and every game you play you will get better and unlock more skins which change the look of the level, the bricks and also the song.

When you unlock the other skins, you can play them individually, as well as play other modes, including puzzle mode which challenges you to make certain patterns with the bricks (like a giraffe), or vs. mode which brings with it a whole new level of challenges, not to mention skins. The multiplayer aspect of this game is phenomenal, as is the depth of the play mechanics. Once the combination of blocks is mastered, 10+ combinations will start coming, and the sense of achievement is unparalleled.

One warning – you will be sleeping, eating and breathing Lumines once you get it, and it's an addiction that is hard to overcome.
