There is nothing quite like putting together the ultimate mix tape: hitting pause a split second before the crucial last beat, waiting for the vocal kick on the next track before jamming the record button... those were the days. Once I spent about half an hour trying to mix the vocals from KRS-ONE’s “Mad Crew” with the end riff from The Cure’s “The Walk”… timing was crucial. The end result was a little odd, but a whole lotta love went into that mix.
These days I’ve slowly come to accept that it's near impossible to effectively distribute mix tapes on a format rarely appreciated by anyone (except the hardcore enthusiasts). So the Mix Tape USB Drive has stepped in to deliver compilations in a modern form without ditching the retro flair. Still no analogue mixing masterpieces, but at least it’s a nod to the beauty of the mix tape.
This is for anyone who used to spend Saturday nights as a kid listening to Top 40 with their finger poised on the record button of their stereo.
