Looks like South Korean engineer Seok Gyeomg-jae has worked out a way to eliminate the bad joke pitfalls that inevitably accompany Master of Ceremony duties. How? By creating a robot of course.
Tiro the robot acted as MOC at Gyeomg-jae’s wedding. Manufacturer Hanool Robotics claims it’s the first time a robot has been used as master of ceremonies at a wedding. And considering the slightly alarming robot obsession that’s sweeping South Korea, it’s probably not the last.
The robot’s anatomy consisted of a cone-shaped body, two arms, a dark-glassed face with eyes, and a mouth of flashing lights. Tiro politely introduced himself to the guests and then proceeded to performed his duties without missing a beat. There were no crude anecdotes, no alcohol induced slurring, no cracking on to the bride (not overtly anyway). It sounds like Tiro was the model MOC.
The robot, whose value was put at 200 million yen ($A260,000), is due to be upgraded to perform various other functions, according to Hanool officials. I heard bar mitzvahs are next on the agenda.
