In a week's time the city of Barcelona will play host to the 10th Barcelona International Festival of Advanced Music and Multimedia Art; that is Sonar 2003.
In terms of music festivals, Sonar actively projects class and intelligence - designed to educate and celebrate both music and technology; a festival that is clearly in a league of its own.
For three days and three nights those who attend the festival will be presented with "an exhibition which shows the evolution of electronic culture through music and art." Whilst it is three days of partying, it is three days of learning.
Bjork will be one of the main highlights of the programme, along with live performances from Underworld and Matthew Herbert and his big band (a show that acclaimed rave reviews at the Trip Tych festival in Glasgow in April). DJ Performances from Giles Peterson, Jeff Mills, Aphex Twin, Laurent Garnier, Metro Area, DJ Hell, Carl Cox, Misstress Barbara and Miss Kittin. This is just a small sample of the live acts and DJ's that will be gracing Sonar 2003 over the three days and nights.
As an attendee at last year's festival, I have once again decided to return to the festival and soak up the music and intelligence. As a person who is passionate about music and culture, an opportunity like this cannot be missed.
