Sadly, we can't turn the clocks back to 1987 and cut loose at a New York block party. The next best thing? Sit back and watch a few hip hop music videos... ??

Maybe not, but it was a good excuse to rifle through the hip hop video archives.

Here are a few old school music clip gems for your viewing pleasure.

Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five with "The Message" Released in 1982, this old school classic paved the way for a number of hip hop artists.

Slick Rick's "Children's Story"  Slick Rick, MC Ricky D, The Ruler... he was a fresh cat. "Children's Story" was made in 1988 when the 'Golden Years' of hip hop were just starting to shift gear. This one's a gem.

RUN-DMC's "You Talk Too Much"  A seminal 80's hop hop outfit, RUN-DMC were the first rap act to have a music video played on MTV. This wasn't it, but it's a personal favourite.

 The Pharcyde: Drop
"Keeping it real is about keeping it original and not trying to have some gimmick or follow some gangster trend. Keep it true to yourself and how you want to come off. People will accept that because it is real." - The Pharcyde.

Public Enemy's "Fight The Power" ... It's time to get subversive.

Beastie Boys' Sabotage... these three skinny Brooklyn based white kids knew how to make killer video clips.

J5's "The Influence" ... Sadly, the J5 boys broke up in March this year. In an post split interview Zakir had this to say... "I don’t want to sit here and fake around with it - we’re not seeing eye-to-eye right now. People see us as a harmonizing, loving group, but that’s far from the truth…" Well, it was good while it lasted.

Afrika Bambaataa w Kraftwerk on "Planet Rock" ... One of the true hip hop legends.

Black Eye Peas..."Joints And Jam" Remember when the BEP's were a legitimate hip hop outfit? Fast forward to 2003, enter Fergie... R.I.P BEP.

Finally, you can't get much more old school than these little numbers...

Kurtis Blow "I'm Chillin"

Kurtis Blow "Basketball"
