Honkytonks: The Last Dance CD Release & National Tour
A 2xCD compilation mixed by DJs Mike Callander and Aram Chapers.

Before its closure on NYD 2007, Honkytonks is proud to announce the launch of its first and only mix CD compilation, Honkytonks: The Last Dance. This 2xCD package features two genuine turntable mixes (a rarity in the digital age) by the club's Saturday night residents Mike Callander and Aram Chapers, including 28 original tracks and remixes by Mathew Jonson, Luciano, Ricardo Villalobos, Superpitcher, Chloe, Dominik Eulberg, Claude Vonstroke, Konrad Black, Monolake, Robert Babicz, Pier Bucci and more, totalling over 140 minutes of cutting edge electronic music. All of this is packaged in a slick digipak format complete with an eight page booklet featuring images from the club's last years. Since its inception in the year 2000, Honkytonks has become a Melbourne clubbing institution that is known around the world. Among its long list of bar awards and accolades, and praise from countless international guests and DJs, New York's V Magazine voted it amongst the top ten 'Greatest Clubs in the Universe' (April 2006).

Sadly, Honkytonks will close its doors on January 1, 2007, after more than six years as an innovator at the forefront of Australian nightclubbing culture. While Honkytonks continues to operate as one of Melbourne's most popular venues, the building is no longer available to host this legendary club. As such, Honkytonks would like to leave its patrons with a lasting record of the
club's magic and diversity, in the form of this uniquely compiled and packaged mix CD compilation.
About Honkytonks: Recently voted as Best Nightclub of the Year at the Australian BAR awards and in the top five clubs in the world by super rad New York Magazine 'V', Honkytonks has been the talk of the town for over 6 years.
Known for pushing forward, cutting edge sounds and serving up drinks and lavish cocktails with weird and wonderful creativity, Honkytonks is open each night from Wednesday through to Sunday - with each evening emitting its own distinct sound and flavours. Costume parties scatter their calendar and are talked about much long after, oh and of course we mustn't forget the most
recent addition of the amazing cirque de toilet: DJs, dancing and downright mayhem in the ladies room.

Honkytonks: The Last Dance is a project that we hope will stretch beyond the ears and dancing shoes of its loyal patrons and guests, and into the living rooms and car stereos of the general music buying public.

Disc 1: Mike Callander presents a mix of leftfield minimal sounds inspired by
the revolution in music and clubbing that has stretched from Berlin and
Cologne around the world and has settled at the core of Melbourne's
underground electronic music scene. With tracks taken from the last five
years, this is a timeless mix that is equally appropriate in the living room as it
is on the dancefloor.

Disc 2: Aram Chapers then takes the musical journey further toward the
traditional club dancefloor, using the German-inspired springboard created in
Mike's mix to leap forward into the realm of current French acid house and
techno. This is a peak-time mix representative of the most intense moments in
the club's last year.

Mike Callander
When Mike Callander discovered
techno music, he was prepared
to forget everything else. The
music of Richie Hawtin, Michael
Mayer and others convinced him
that life offered more than the
politics degree he studied for the
job he never wanted. So, while
still at university, he began
throwing techno parties with good
friend Luke Rivett, and he has
since invested his heart and soul
into the exploration of electronic
music.
It was in 2001 at the infamous 'Fokus' club nights that Mike cut his teeth as a
DJ, always playing first or last in support of the weekly guest, and allowing
him to demonstrate a unique style characterised by careful programming and
clever mixing that saw him appealing equally to the punters on the sidelines
as those on the dancefloor.
Melbourne's party promoters took notice and began booking Mike for
extended closing sets, or the all-important warm-up slots before international
acts. Now on any given weekend Mike is one of the city's only DJs who might
play his genre-defying music to house, techno or progressive crowds in the
same night. The two most indicative examples of his versatility are his
Saturday night residency at Honkytonks and his monthly residency at the
infamous Sunny parties where he might play the first, last or main set in
various rooms.
And, from late October 2006, you'll be able to experience a taste of Mike's
DJing beyond the club and party sphere, through his first full-release mix CD
entitled "Honkytonks: The Last Dance". Celebrating the last few years of his
Saturday night residency at Honkytonks, 'The Last Dance' is a 2xCD
compilation featuring Mike's favourite tracks for after-hours DJing alongside
his fellow Honkytonks resident, Aram Chapers. Worldwide distribution is
through Stomp/EQ.
Mike's exploration of electronic music has furthermore seen him play all
across Australasia and into South East Asia at a range of clubs, parties and
festivals alongside his favourite artists, while in the daylight hours he
continues his ongoing commitment to electronic music through his work in
record distribution, touring and event promotion.

Aram Chapers
Aram Chapers has slipped under
the radar but managed to capture
quite an underbelly of interest in
the Melbourne underground
electronic music scene. Avoiding
the spotlight, he's not one to talk
about his music, but has instead
decided to focus entirely on the
craft of creating something
special from the records he finds
and plays.
Aram's style is hard to pin down
into one category, but those
around him say it sits somewhere
between German and French minimalist house and techno. His sets always
have their surprises, whether it be something a little on the abstract side of
deep techno or house spectrum or an older gem dug deep from his collection.
Aram works together unobvious tunes to create a perfect burrow for the party
people to dance and get lost in.
Aram's unique vibe can be seen every Saturday night at his residency at
arguably Australia's best club - Honkytonks. Honkytonks is the perfect space
for Aram, where he has held a prominent role for the last few years. The
club's open-minded attitude has allowed him to explore and refine his
hypnotic sound and play many of his individual support sets with guest
including Damian Lazarus, Mathew Jonson, Tim Paris, Aril Brikha, Matthew
Dear, Joris Voorn, Dexter, Oliver Hunteman, Rex the Dog and Headman to
name a few.
Aram has compiled and mixed the first ever Honkytonks compilation titled
"Honkytonks: The Last Dance", distributed worldwide through Stomp/EQ.
"Honkytonks: The Last Dance" is a 2xCD compilation along with fellow
Saturday night resident and good friend Mike Callander. Expect to be taken
deep into Aram's world, with a selection full of his favourite tracks played
behind the baby grand and programmed in such a way your mind flick back to
memories of those crazy times had each Saturday night at Honkytonks.
Aside from Honkytonks, he has frequently played at many of Melbourne's
larger parties and festivals in Melbourne and interstate and just returned from
Paris where he was invited to play at Tim Paris' Marketing label night at the
Nouveau Casino. Bigger plans are already underway to return for the
European summer of 2007.
