Melbourne rock n roll institution Cherry bar was last night in ruins as a fire swept through the building, causing the roof to collapse.

It is believed the blaze started at around 8.30pm in Jamie Oliver’s Melbourne offices, which are located in the same block.

It quickly spread to Cherry, which had closed just 2 weeks ago for renovations. The bar suffered extensive damage, mainly due to water damage from the surrounding offices.

The Living End was booked to play a free concert in AC/DC Lane tomorrow night, but it is not yet known whether the gig will go ahead.
