Lock up your Grannies, Led Zeppelin are back! The band that formed in 1968 then went on to conquer the world, will reform for a one-off gig in London on November 26 this year.
The rumours have been gathering momentum for some time, but it was only at yesterday’s press conference that the confirmation finally arrived.
London’s O2 Arena will play host to the rock n roll legends as they headline a benefit gig which aims to raise money for the Ahmet Ertegun Education Fund, who provide scholarships for schools in the US, UK and Turkey.
The band that invented heavy metal last shared the stage at their Rock n Roll Hall of Fame induction almost 12 years ago. They had sworn never to play under the Led Zep moniker ever again, following the death of drummer John Bonham in 1980.
However, with Bonham’s son Jason on skins for the upcoming event, the rest of the members felt they could commit to the show without desecrating their dead friend’s memory.
To coincide with the gig, a ‘best of’ compilation will be released on November 13, entitled Mothership.
Fingers are crossed for a world tour, hopefully involving a trip downunder along the way. Stay tuned.
