Alternative rock outfit Meat Bee have recorded their own twisted version of the Transformers theme tune, which could well be re-titled “Transformers…..robots on the hooch”.
It’s a swirling dirge that owes more to The Jesus and Mary Chain than it does to White Lion (the 80s idiots who originally brought us such insightful lyrics as “Strong enough to break the bravest heart/ So we have to pull together, we can't stay worlds apart/ To stand divided we will surely fall/ Until our darkest hour when the light will save us all”).
And to be honest, it’s easy to not even recognize the song (which is probably a bonus), as Meat Bee have done such a number on it you would think the movie depicts a 1967 split-screen combie van transforming itself into a sandwich toaster or a mulling machine.
Ethereal female vocals sit atop a wall of melancholy guitars, with reverb and delay pedals clearly very high on the band’s Christmas wish list last year. It is a formula that appears throughout the band’s catalogue and works well on other offering such as Dogs, Don’t Come Over and Just For Me.
It was never going to be included on the Transformers soundtrack but, if people behind the movie are into getting wasted, it might just make the director’s cut.
