The savoir- faire sounds of this heady and intoxicatingly cool band have migrated all the way from the town of Leeds in the UK. Taking to the skies with a their breed of indie rock, The Pigeon Detectives are soaring through the music scene, creating an indelible mark.
Initially championed in their home country by disc jockeys and other famous bands like the Kaiser Chiefs, The Pigeon Detectives have become exponentially popular. Their latest tour of Europe has a strikingly insane list of SOLD OUT shows and from the looks of their live performances, it’s no wonder. Engulfed by complete mayhem security guards certainly have their work cut out for them, with crowd surfers, disentangled bodies, sweat and microphone cords.
Bands are readily branded, ‘the next big thing’ and fortunately it is with complete verity that The Pigeon Detectives not only fall into this category, but own it outright. With their first album, Wait For Me only released in May 2007, they have already appeared in countless festivals and UK television shows.
Their second album, Emergency is hot off the press and displays The Pigeon Detectives as legitimate artists whose youthful vibrancy levitates their mature sounding music. The quintet of Matt Bowman, Oliver Main, Ryan Wilson, Dave Best and Jimmi Naylor have created quintessential Pommy accented, classic indie rock songs with terrific melodies, catchy beats and even better lyrics.
With tremendous tunes that are instantly amiable, the first play of their second album, is like buying a brand new woollen jumper that fits so perfectly it feels like you’ve been wearing it for years. This album is a complete stand- out and displays that it’s not only a peculiar name that will get you noticed - you have to be backed by a large amount of musical prowess.
And The Pigeon Detective’s dexterity shines with Emergency and prominent tracks like, ‘She’s Gone’, Don’t You Wana Find Out’, ’This Is An Emergency’, ‘Everybody Wants Me’ and my major prediction, ‘Say It Like You Mean It’.
Whoever said that pigeons were rats with wings never heard about this band. Unsuspecting yet witty and unrelenting, they’re definitely a band worthy of more than just crumbs.
