The 3rd album from local eclectics The Resin Dogs was co-produced by Brad Baloo of the Nextmen, and doesn’t it show. Versatile and chunky, ‘More’ represents the band’s most polished work to date, with the first single ‘Coming with the Sound’ likely to be the one that launches a long and sizeable career.

In the 10 years the Dogs’ have been together, their crossover style has attracted an ever-growing legion of loyal fans, but this offering has a much more universal appeal and flows in a way the previous two didn’t quite manage.

Tracks such as Fine Mess and Caught Up are clear evidence of the band being completely comfortable in its own skin, and of a decade spent soaking up ideas like a sponge. Funkadelic is an obvious influence, as is the aforementioned Nextmen and others such as Ozomatli and Galactic.

But at the risk of choking on clichés,  it’s the funk that’s the clear winner here, with guest performances from Abstract Rule, Aceyalone, Mikah 9, UK Demolition Man and others ensuring the overall effect is fatter than Yo Mama.
