A good surprise is one of the basic elements of humor.  A pie in the face, slipping on a banana peel or just the classic premature elephant ejaculation are all good for a puerile giggle.         

We all remember the pure and simple joy of jumping out and scaring the living bajesus out of a friend, loved one, or idiot in our lives.  I think it’s fine to subject somebody’s heart to sudden stress and take months or years off their life as a way to entertain oneself.  I should also add that while kids really enjoy this sort of thing, they were less than appreciative when I did my “research” at the retirement home.  As it turns out you actually can scare somebody to death.  Try to have the old folks add you into their will before you conduct your “experiments.”
