The new $87 million entertainment centre in Perth is to be named The Heath Ledger Theatre in honor of the town’s favorite actor, who lost his life in January.

Ledger’s father Kim welcomed the move, saying “I really feel that there’s not a lot of things he’d put his name to, but he’d put his name to that”.

The family has been under added pressure recently, with Ledger’s final blockbuster, The Dark Knight launching in Australia on July 18.

“It’s just been a little more public and the films make it a little more public as well,” he said. “It’s been a little bit hard, but we’ve always been extremely proud of his work and that hasn’t changed.”
