Rock dinosaur Phil Collins beat Paul McCartney’s record yesterday, although it wasn’t for his contribution to the music industry.

Collins, a huge star during the decade that taste forgot, was forced to pay his 3rd wife a reported $46 million divorce settlement, roughly a million more than McCartney spent dropping crazy Heather Mills.

But none of this is new for the Genesis tub-thumper. Over his three separations he’s shelled out an estimated $84 million, which he claims is around a third of his overall wealth of $280 million.

Specific details of the settlement were kept secret, although rumors suggest Mrs Collins claimed mental and emotional abuse, following 7 years spent listening to incredibly bad music.

It was widely reported that Collins dumped his last wife by fax, but this time it wasn’t quite as sudden.

“I could feel it coming in the air” he said.
