Lou Pearlman, the man behind such atrocities as The Backstreet Boys and N’Sync, is angling for a bit of sentence reduction by informing on his fellow inmates, according to msnbc.
Pearlman is serving 25 years for his involvement in a $300 million investment scam, but has decided to play teacher’s pet by squealing on the blabbermouth killer in the next cell.
He claims to have overheard Davin Smith discussing a crime in which an off duty policeman was murdered during a botched robbery. After taking notes, Pearlman was able to give police plenty of information, including details of the murder weapon and motive.
But Pearlman’s lawyer, Fletcher Peacock, denied it was an attempt to get a lighter sentence, stating “he’s just trying to do what he can to help authorities. Quite frankly, Mr. Pearlman would have come forward with it whether he had a case pending or not. It’s just his obligation as a citizen.”
He then went on to say he would be asking a judge to consider Pearlman’s new-found benevolence, and maybe knock a few months off for good behavior.
Fans of The Backstreet Boys have been encouraged to submit their own victim impact statements.
