Ferris Bueller's Day Off

A message to teenagers everywhere - all it takes to pull off the mother of all sick days is access to your best friends's father's Ferrari, some computer hacking skills, a body double, a sound recording device, and a bit of cheek. An impromptu street festival in the middle of the city helps.

Breakfast Club

TAG: "Five teenagers with nothing in common, except each other".

The quintessential 1980's coming of age movie, the Breakfast Club offered disillusioned teenagers everywhere the chance to shine. The Breakfast Club was ranked number 1 on Entertainment Weekly's list of the 50 Best High School Movies and can claim the best classically 80's feel-good dancing sequence ever captured on film.

St Elmo's Fire

To some it was "soapy brat pack sap" to others a familiar tale of the struggle to come to terms with adulthood. Either way, it was a worthwhile watch, if only for the chance to catch a glimpse of a topless Rob Lowe saxing it up in full 80's rock mode. And guys - a young Demi... need we say more?

Police Academy

The beauty of the Police Academy films was that you could always rely on certain things happening. Mahoney would always get the girl, Harris would always be the victim of a humiliating practical joke, someone would always accidently walk into the Blue Oyster (gay) Bar and the good guys would always prevail.

Some Kind of Wonderful

The story of a tomboy who's in love with her best friend who's in love with the most popular girl in school who's dating the richest guy in school. It's all fairly predictable, but you've got to love a movie where the uncool kid triumphs, especially when she wears fingerless leather gloves and carries drum sticks everywhere she goes.

Risky Business

To be honest I don't think anyone really remembers anything about this film other than Cruise's famous underpants dance scene and a black Porsche sinking into the murky depths of Lake Michigan.

The Lost Boys

"Death by stereo!" This film captures the true essence of wild 80's freakishness. With the ultimate popcorn movie cast, The Lost Boys took the classic vampire flick to new heights whilst launching the careers of the "two Coreys". We've got a lot to thank Joel Schumacher for.

Ghostbusters

Three off-beat scientists with enough particle power to blast anything that gets in their way. With the coming of "Gozer", demon possession and a giant marshmallow man stomping his way through the streets of New York, how could you possibly go wrong?

Top Gun

The days when Tom Cruise actually came across as a semi-normal dude, if not slightly overzealous. This one was all about big engines, speed and a rebellion. It also set Cruise up as the pin-up boy of the 80's - something Katie Holmes never managed to move on from.

 Fame

The godfather of the "live your dream" ethic. If 80's dance apparel isn't enough to ignite the senses hang back for the spine tingling split-leap filled climax.

"For Cocco it's the stardom, for Ralph it's the chance, for Leroy it's survival, for Lisa it's the dance." Right on.
